Day Two - NYC

Sorry we're a day late! We didn't get back to our billets until 1:00 AM!
We left bright and early Friday to go to New York City. We drove to Staten Island, and then took the Staten Island Ferry from Staten Island to Manhattan, where we spent the day.

This is what the Ferry looked like:

The ferry took us right past the Statue of Liberty:

We all wore our orange shirts so we would be noticeable in the big city... here is a group of students:
The first stop in Manhattan, NYC was Ground Zero. Here we saw the construction of the Freedom Tower. Unfortunately, we were not able to get tickets to go to the Ground Zero memorial.

 Looking up at the building:
Then we went to Trinity Church...

Trinity Church has a famous cemetery where Alexander Hamilton was buried.

Next we went down Wall Street into Federal Hall.

Our party then began a very long, very intense hike up to the Brooklyn Bridge. It was totally worth it and had an awesome view. One thing we learned was look both ways before you cross the bike path!

The Met: this was Mrs. Faber's favorite stop because we went threw the 12th-present day art. It was really interesting revisiting many of the pictures and artists we had studied in her previous art classes.

The Rockefeller Center was the climax of our trip as we rode to the 72nd floor of the tower. The views were breath taking and it was fun seeing all the sights that we had previously walked through earlier that day.

We hit Central Park towards the later afternoon and stopped to enjoy a bight of ice cream. We found a nice shady spot by the river and enjoyed a little break time.

How does one describe Times Square? Explicative (Darren) Enigmatic (Kelsey F) Insane (Jordan B) Indefatigable (Johanna). As you can see from these descriptions Times Square is as unique as the students in our class! But seriously, it was AWESOME! A huge highlight of the trip. We all got an hour or so to shop around and explore. Mr. Bouwman even got his face up on the big screen!

More Pictures to follow... it's bed time now!
